About: "Xavier University of Louisiana’s first distinction, as America’s only Historically Black and Catholic University, is just the beginning of an exciting story of educational leadership and excellence. Established by Saint Katharine Drexel, founder of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, it became a four-year university in 1925. A College of Pharmacy was added in 1927. Xavier's mission is to create a more just and humane society by educating tomorrow's leaders. With an average enrollment of 3,000+ students from 40 states and over two dozen nations, Xavier provides an outstanding liberal arts education while preparing its students to assume roles of responsible leadership and service. Admission Info: Xavier University of Louisiana is located in the heart of New Orleans, minutes away from the city's educational, cultural, and recreational facilities. Xavier has a College of Arts and  Sciences with an approximate enrollment of 3,300, a College of Pharmacy with an enrollment of approximately 600, and the Graduate Program with an enrollment of 250. Founded by Saint Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of The Blessed Sacrament in 1915, it has the distinction of being the only historically Black, Catholic university in the western hemisphere. However, its doors are open to students of all races and religious creeds. To its students, Xavier is an excellent university where they can prepare for a rewarding life and exciting careers.
