About: "Wilberforce University is located in south-western Ohio. It is a unique institution located in a state rich in America's private college tradition. Founded prior to the end of slavery in 1856, it is the nation's oldest, private African-American university. For 153 years Wilberforce University and its legacy has, through sheer force of will, provided young African-American students with a solid educational experience. The Wilberforce legacy continues today with students from 38 states, the District of Columbia and a number of foreign nations. Wilberforce University's mission is and has been since 1856 to help our students identify and prepare for their respective purposes in life as global citizens by imparting knowledge, instilling discipline and inspiring lifelong learning through critical inquiry, personal and spiritual development and practical application.
