Spelman College

About: Spelman College was founded by Sophia B. Packard and Harriet E. Giles, two Christian teachers from Massachusetts. With only $100 and a mission to provide the highest level of education to women of color in the South, Spelman College has expanded to a beautiful oasis for higher education. With a student population of 2,200 students, Spelman College is comprised of students from 46 states and many different countries. We are able to offer our students an intimate learning environment with a Student to Faculty ratio of 12:1. We offer 27 majors and 10 pre-professional programs. Our most popular majors for incoming first year students are: Biology/Pre-med, Psychology, Political Science, Economics and English.

Admission Info: Admission to Spelman is highly competitive and strong academic credentials are imperative. We also consider leadership experiences, extracurricular involvement, community service, employment and personal interests and abilities. Our ultimate goal? To admit a diverse group of bright, talented and inspiring women who will carry Spelman’s legacy into the next generation.
