About: "Claflin University offers 35 undergraduate majors, including biotechnology, bioinformatics, computer engineering and digital design, and three graduate programs – an MBA, a M.S. in Biotechnology and a M.Ed. in Educational Studies. Claflin’s eighth president, Dr. Henry N. Tisdale, a 1965 graduate of the University, is entering his 15th year of leadership and Claflin will celebrate its 140th anniversary this school term. Claflin’s athletic teams completed their first season as members of the NCAA Division II Southern Intercollegiate Conference last season. Head Men’s Basketball Coach Ron Woodard was named Coach of the Year by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and the Claflin University Panthers won the SIAC title. Forbes.com, in its inaugural ranking of colleges and universities, ranked Claflin among the top four percent of more than 3,000 American colleges and universities, a ranking that designated Claflin as the top HBCU in the nation. Having been ranked for 11 consecutive years as one of America’s Best Colleges by U.S. News and World Report and in the top tier among Baccalaureate Colleges in the South, Claflin is gaining recognition as one of the premiere liberal arts institutions in the nation.
